In a final sendoff to 2023, Apple Music hosted a New Years Eve livestream with exclusive performances from Peggy Gou, and Honey Dijon. The party was captured at 99 Scott in Brooklyn NY, through a unique array of cinema robotics and spatial audio; with the DJ platform placed center in the venue for 360°audience immersion. This experience is still available to stream on Apple Music.
The event was ultimately captured through six Sony Venice cameras, powered by a unique wireless mesh network. This system provided by our partners at Feed RF allowed our two roaming units to travel organically over a full city block. Signal persisted through several concrete structures, allowing seamless movement from inside the event space to all sides of the venue’s exterior. The real-time stream was channeled to our control room for live switching while our DIT maintained direct, wireless control of IRIS, ISO, Shutter, and White Balance to all six cameras. Plus the full Venice remote GUI as fallback.
Our partner RailCam USA provided a 360° track and Agito dolly surrounding the DJ platform for the hero shot. Additionally, an inverted RailCam was flown above the audience for overhead visibility, plus a 90 ft forward tracking shot. A reverse shot was also had by an additional RailCam nestled in the rear lighting array.
Dozens of audience mics with a multitrack record laid the foundation for a Dolby ATMOS mix, plus spatial audio when listening through AirPods, Beats, and now Apple Vision.
Thank you to Apple Music, and our client Contrast Films for trusting us with the engineering component of such an immersive vision.
